The Garden Route stretches from Port Elizabeth (the Eastern Cape) to the Mossel Bay (the Western Cape), or vice versa. The name comes from the verdant and diverse vegetation encountered and the numerous lagoons and lakes dotted along the coast.

The Outeniqua Pass (first picture) with at least 3 magnificent viewpoints where one can see over George all the way to the Indian Ocean, is a spectacular mountain pass and a great engineering feat. The highest point of 799m is reached 14km from George.
Cape St. Blaize Lighthouse (2nd picture) is located in Mossel Bay on the beautiful garden Route. It is the only rock lighthouse on the South African coast. It is open for tours throughout the year from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
Mossel Bay's Maritime Museum (3rd picture) houses a replica of the Caravel in which Bartolomeu Dias became the first European navigator to round the cape, and which he sailed into Mossel Bay for the first time on 3 February, 1488.
The town of Knysna is perched conveniently on the Garden Route. It is situated on the banks of a magnificent lagoon, which stretches out to the Indian Ocean. In the heart of this scenic beauty is the Knysna Waterfront. (4th picture)
The Featherbed Nature Reserve is a unique 150 ha private Nature Reserve, encompassing the whole of the Western Head of Knysna and one of South Africa's unique Natural Heritage Sites. Featherbed is a pristine piece of paradise that is accessible by ferry only. (5th picture)
Tsitsikamma Park, on the Garden Route, is renowned for its natural beauty, being endowed with magnificent forests, deep ravines, towering mountain ranges and the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. The Mouth trail to get to the picturesque Storms River Mouth Suspension Bridge is one of the shortest hikes of this part of the Tsitsikamma National park. (6th picture)
