The object Landmark / Birthmark is specially designed for the people of Oosterheem. The eleven-meter high structure is surrounded by a staircase and stands on the island in the Heem channel . The artifact consists of galvanized steel parts. The art object is designed by Hans van Houwelingen and is part of an art plan for the Oosterheem area. This plan has been chosen for three objectives directions : a monumental sculpture , an experience in the district and ' walk ' . This artwork is part of the ' walk ' .
Art Object Landmark / Birthmark has the shape of a staircase where locks are hung . Each clasp symbolizes a new birth of a child in the district . The more children are born the more slots there will hung to the image.
This art object seems a bit like the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris, where Love couples from all over the world come to fasten a padlock as a sign of their eternal love. The keys are thrown into the river .
