Paddle your way through Pennsylvania's Grand Canyon, aka Pine Creek Gorge. This is one of PA's scenic rivers and it is over 60 miles long. The most popular section of pine creek is the 17 miles that flows through the canyon which will take about 4 to 6 hours to the small town of Blackwell. Pine Creek has no dams, so there are no dam releases. The flow of the river totally depends on the weather. The best time of year to go canoeing is in the spring because of frequent rain and snow melt. If there has been little rain for an entire season, chances are there won't be enough water to paddle. The water level can change fast so please check river conditions before you leave (visit link) This particular canoe launch is at the very northern end of the PA Grand Canyon and is a great place to start your journey through the gorge.

Parking/put-in/launching information: There is ample parking and this launch ramp. You are required to have a PA Fish and Boat Commission launch permit for any unmotorized boat without a registration. They can be picked up at any DCNR office. Also at this site is a water pump and restrooms. Paddling conditions to be expected: Stream. Some whitewater depending on weather. Rapids can be anywhere from class I to class III depending on water level. Difficulty of the trip: Easy to moderate depending on water level. Length of trip: 17 miles or about 6 hours Portages: None, if the water is high enough. If the water is low there are many. Please check the water conditions before going out. At times the water can be to low to paddle all. Permits required: Your boat needs a launch permit or registration, you don't need both. The launch permits in PA are good for a 1.5 years and are $18. Halfway down the gorge at Tiadagton is a self serve free (you still need to contact DCNR for the free permit) campground with about a half a dozen sites, bathrooms, and drinking water. It's a great little place to stop for a break and eat lunch as well!
