Smuggler's Cove - Manzanita, Oregon - Pirates on Waymarking.com

Somewhere on the base of Neahkahnie Mountain, now located north of Manzanita in Oswald West State Park, is said to be a buried pirate treasure, hidden in the late 1500s. Clatsop Indian legend says that the pirates buried a treasure chest on the slopes at the base of the mountain and marked the spot with an inscribed rock. Legend further has it that the treasure is guarded by the ghost of a man who was killed and buried with the loot. Smuggler's Cove is said to be wher ethe pirate landed to complete this grisly task.

They came ashore via Short Sand Beach! So not only is this place naturally breathtakingly scenic, but there is also the looming wonder for all who visit as to whether or not there really is Incan and Mayan gold, pirated first by the Spanish and then by the English, burried somewhere in the area.
