The eternal flame is located at the base of a 40 m obelisk, a memorial to the country’s war dead in the centre of the victory square.
It was laid on the 17th anniversary of liberation of Minsk, on 3rd July 1961.
Nowadays, Minsk Victory Square is a place of pilgrimage for the people of Belarus wishing to remember the millions that died in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), and a popular place for newlyweds photo shoots.
