Southern summit of Mt. Aragats, 3890 meters high, is one of four summits of stratovolcano, which is the highest mountain of Armenia and also Southern Caucasus.
Formed by a volcano eruption in the distant past Mount Aragats is the highest peak in Armenia. It has four peaks the highest of which is the Northern with 4090 meters of height. Then come the Western peak (4080 meters), the Eastern (3916 meters) and the Southern (3890 meters). The southern summit, which is the first if you are climbing the mountain, is also waymarked one. On the summit is newly erected steel cross, residuum of stone-built cabin and also steel tripod-like construction assigning the highest point.
The Southern Summit of Aragats is a relatively easy walk, and climbed quite frequently. However, the weather can change rapidly even during the hot summers. It is climbed from Kari Lake (3190 m). There are no set paths, but the summit is visible from Kari Lake. The climb takes about 4 hours.
