"The name most likely as an architect of the building is that of Giuliano da Majano , which must have worked between 1458 and 1469 , but there are those who claimed an interest in the project by Filippo Brunelleschi , author of the Pazzi Chapel for the same family , or Michelozzo . It has been speculated a possible design of Brunelleschi ( though denied by some scholars ) , carried out by Giuliano da Majano , the same architect who completed the chapel in Santa Croce , and that he created for the same family villa La Loggia .
It was Jacopo de ' Pazzi to want the building on the site of some of the houses belonging to the family , and the construction of such a large building was probably one of the elements of rivalry and confrontation between the rich families of the Medici and the Pazzi . The palace is in fact also known as " the conspiracy " because the family who lived there was responsible for the so-called conspiracy of the Pazzi, a conspiracy that led to the killing during the Mass in Santa Maria del Fiore di Giuliano de ' Medici and the wounding of his brother Lorenzo the Magnificent. The heads of the episode were soon hanged by the enraged crowd Florentine and initially all the Pazzi family was exiled and their property confiscated.
The palace was then granted to a French Estonville , then was brought as a dowry by Maddalena , daughter of Lorenzo de 'Medici , on the occasion of his marriage to Franceschetto Cybo , which took place on February 25, 1487 in Rome , in the Vatican.
His son Lorenzo Cybo married Ricciarda The Malaspina , Marchioness of Massa , and from him came the Cybo Malaspina family . At that time the building became known as the " Palace of Marchesane Mass " , and was known throughout the city for the social life that the owners of the building they used to do. The same Ricciarda also had a love affair with the controversial Duke Alessandro de ' Medici.
In 1593 it passed to the Strozzi family , who kept it until 1796 when it became the property of Quaratesi . In 1843 he changed to the new owner , and was purchased by Ferdinand de Rast, rich German national who after visiting Florence on a journey he fell in love electing as its permanent home. After his death he ordered that the palace were sold to a religious institute of Coburg . In the period when Florence was capital (1865-1871) housed the Masonic Lodge of the Grand Orient of Italy.
In 1913 was bought by the Bank of Florence, which had it restored by the architect Adolfo Coppedè . In that time, was fitted with a cover of the courtyard with iron and colored glass, then removed.
The transition to its current owner , the seat of INPS Florence, dating back to 1931 . In the postwar period was the subject of major renovations that restored the fifteenth aspect of the complex (1940-1945) , commissioned by supervisors Morozzi Guido and Ugo Procacci : the courtyard was put " light " that is brought back to its original form without coverage. A further restoration was completed in 2010."
