The National Sea Rescue Institue is a non-profit, volunteer organization that provides its services to rescue lives in the sea. There are about 900 volunteers that work at 32 coastal stations and 3 inland stations. NSRI Station #8 is located at Hout Bay. The organization is also actively promotes water safety, and has programs geared toward school aged children.



Another outreach that can be found on the NSRI website are a series of public outreach videos. One that I viewed is called "Life Jackets Save Lives-Save Yourself". This very short video (less than 4 minutes long) features one swimmer pulling another out of the water and attempting CPR. It appears it is too late to save the victim, and the rescuer rolls over on the sand in dispare, shaking his head. That is when you realize the two people are the same! (probably identical twins). Luckily, the victum begins to stir, he is alright after all. Save yourself!
