It was during the meeting of 13 November 1918, two days after the signing of
the armistice, by unanimity , on the proposal of Mr. Bluteau , City Council decides
to raise a memorial to fallen soldiers gloriously in defense of the
homeland. A sum of two thousand francs is then passed to this effect. In addition, the Council decides
ask two cannons captured from the Huns to adorn the monument.
At the February 13, 1920, the City Council decided to increase from 2000 to
8000 francs credit for the construction of a monument erected in honor of soldiers
fell gloriously for their country .

Texedre , the board decided unanimously that the monument to the dead of the Great War
is surrounded by a grid. The mayor invited his colleagues to go to the foot of the building
to choose a device that is well received by the population. It is so decided .
And finally , on 31 July 1922, the project is finally finished , almost. At the
request of the City Council , Mr. Pompilius , locksmith Gençay , agreed to establish a
grid at the monument of the dead of the Great War to -60 f . the meter and 40 f . of
increase for the door.
Gençay inaugurated Sunday, June 26, 1921 , the monument to the victims of war. this
pious remembrance ceremony was celebrated with a special glow. By noon , the crowd already
rushed from neighboring towns , crowded into the streets decked houses. At 14 hours, the
City Council meets at City Hall to receive his guests. Upon arrival the motorcade
formed in the following order: three girls representing , one republican France , wearing the
Phrygian cap , surrounded by a tricolor scarf and carrying a flag : on his right Lorraine, and
his left Alsace and boys schools each carrying a small tricolor and
girls a bouquet in hand , under the supervision of their masters and mistresses , followed by the
wards of the state . A delegation of cripples Section Poitiers, accompanied by their
comrades Township , another delegation of the National Union of Fighters finally Society
Shot Gençay , each preceded by their banner , community leaders, civil servants. To the strains of a
rousing march played by our band , reinforced by some members of the Music Society
Charroux the procession goes to the foot of the monument , which are deposited wreaths and flowers.
The monument which caused general admiration , the weapon is a hairy foot. On the base are
engraved the names of 45 children of the town fell on the field of honor
