Henryk Sienkiewicz monument in Lazienki Park in Warsaw, was unveiled on May 5, 2000. The monument was donated by Zbigniew Karol Porczynski and his wife Janina. According to the wishes of the benefactor the monument was made by sculptor prof. Casimir Gustav Zemla and the monument was unveiled by the writer's granddaughter Maria Sienkiewicz, and great-great grandson John Sienkiewicz. The figure of the writer has been cast in bronze by Tadeusz Zwolinski and the plinth is made of Silesia syenite.
Although soon after the death of Henryk Sienkiewicz in 1916, it was intended to erect a monument in Warsaw , the monument has never been realized. In 1997, Dr. Zbigniew Karol Porczynski and his wife Janina returned to the intention of building a monument, allocating for this purpose the sum of one hundred thousand dollars.
The over-life-size sculpture (created by Gustaw Zemla) presents the author sitting on a plinth engulfed in flame, dropping three sheets of a manuscript (one of them was unforunately stolen in 2010) . This image of the author is ties to the turbulent times of 18th century Poland depicted in the ‘Trilogy’.
