This international airport is the primary airport for Cape Town, and is reported to be the 2nd busiest airport in South Africa, the 3rd busiest in Africa. It is about 12 miles (20 kilometres) from the center of Cape Town. The airport opened in 1954 (replacing Wingfield Aerodrome). The airport was upgraded and renovated just prior to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, at the cost of 1.6 billion Rand.
