Capitol Rock is described as a massive white limestone uplift that resembles the Nation's capitol building. Geologically, several periods of rock layering or strata, ranging from late cretaceous to miocene (145 million to 5 million years old, respectively), can be seen. The surrounding area is rolling hills and grassland. Lots of wildlife to be seen here as well.

I recommend a high clearance vehicle. Plan on at least a couple hours driving time once you get on this road. Best approach is from the south off Tie Creek Road, then Hwy 20 before it goes into North Dakota. A gravel road goes north off 20 along the border, then turns west towards Capital Rock.

Once you get here, you can hike around, climb the rock, take photos and just enjoy the silence. Roving cows are about, so be careful when you're driving. For more detail, see the web link below.
