Back in the 1500 years one of few stone buildings was here. Later a new city hall was built in 1837, but during the war and the bombing in 1864 the city hall was damaged so much that a new had to be built the year after. In 1931 the city council held an architectual competition and Holger Mundt won both the first and second price. The old city hall is still being used, but in the years 1983-85 another new city hall was built in close proximity.
