‘De tre søjler’ (The three columns) is an alternative version of a Japanese torii-gate, by Sven Dalsgaard. Torii-gates are part of the original, Japanese Shinto-religion. Here they act as markings, signifying the transition from holy ground or noteworthy features in the landscape. In this case, Dalgaard’s ‘torii-gate’ marks the transition from land to water and beautifully frames the mouth of the Gudenå river in Randers Fjord.
BYPORT 91 is a combined urban planning and art project for the center in Randers, which began in 1991.
The idea of the project is to create a boundary between the city center and the surrounding neighborhoods using 13 'gates' located at each of the city's 13 entrance roads.
This isn't gates in the traditional sense, but rather markings in the form of sculptures.
