[E] According to legend, this chapel was built to protect a wooden statue of the Virgin. In 1562, during the Wars of Religion, a monk of the Abbey of Cormery have hidden the statue in the hollow of an old oak tree where it is finally forgotten. Much later, a drover's discovered because one of his oxen still licking through the bark of this tree. Have been found in the woods Bau, it takes the name of Beauchêne.
A small chapel was erected to its intention and this place became a place of pilgrimage. It was for children to have a healthy and also to get the rain.
In 1862, given the success of the pilgrimage, the present stone chapel was erected. The statue of Our Lady of Beauchêne is now in a chapel in the church of the town.
[F] D’après la légende, cette chapelle a été construite, afin de protéger une statue en bois de la Vierge. En 1562, pendant les guerres de Religion, un moine de l’abbaye de Cormery aurait caché cette statue dans le creux d’un vieux chêne où elle est finalement oubliée. Bien plus tard, un bouvier la découvrit car un de ses bœufs léchait toujours en passant l’écorce de cet arbre. Ayant été retrouvée dans le bois de Bau, elle prend le nom de Beauchêne.
Un modeste oratoire fût dressé à son intention et cet endroit est devenu un lieu de pèlerinage. On y allait pour que les enfants aient une bonne santé et également pour obtenir de la pluie.
En 1862, devant le succès du pèlerinage, l’actuelle chapelle en pierre fût érigée. La statue de Notre-Dame de Beauchêne se trouve maintenant dans une chapelle de l’église de la commune.
