"Two local artists are helping to brighten up a couple of bus shelters in Gower and give them a new lease of life.
Landore artists Mary Hayman and Karen Hope have already completed their first job by giving a well-used bus stop in Port Eynon a flavour of the sea by illustrating a number of nautical themed images on the interior of the shelter.
And a second shelter in Oxwich Bay is set to get a special makeover thanks to confirmation of further grant funding from a Welsh Assembly initiative aimed at improving AONBs in Wales.
The work of the artists was commissioned by BayTrans, a regional transport initiative involving local Councils in Swansea Bay. The partnership was set up to encourage better use of public transport in Swansea Bay and help boost tourism to the area.
A plaque was recently unveiled at the Port Eynon site to commemorate the work and credit the artists.
John Hague, Cabinet Member for the Environment in Swansea Council, said: "The popularity of the award winning Gower Explorer bus service which operates between Gower and Swansea city centre has meant an increase in the number of passengers using public transport.
"Hopefully, brightening up some of the popular stop-off points will help create a brighter environment for both residents living in Gower and for the visitors who flock there during the summer months."
John Davies, Project Officer for BayTrans, said: "This colourful mural has transformed the waiting experience for bus passengers at Port Eynon and is an important part of our marketing of Gower Explorer." Text Source: (
