The sculpture was made by local artist Joey Burns. The Cavan Arts website describes it as follows:

This larger than life fiddle head sits right in the middle of the mini roundabout in the heart of the town. Carved in wood this beautifully crafted fiddle head has steel strings that pin it in situ and instill a sense of music and fortitude amidst the frenetic activity around it. Commissioned as part of the Mórtas an Cabhán Sculptural Symposium for the Fleadh Cheoil 2010.

At the above link there is also a video interview with Joey Burns, including some footage from the sculpture installation.
