In 1994, the Cutsforth family of Canby held a car show, and 20 cars participated; it has been held every year since that first show. In 2012, more than 600 autos were entered in the car show (and a few tractors also). The show has grown to include other activities and today has expanded so that the Cruise-in is a part of the "Canby Big Weekend" which includes a quilt show, an art show, fun runs, the world famous Swan Island Dahlia Show and other events.
But the car show is still the biggest draw, and causes the downtown of Canby to be barracaded off, so that Wait Park, which is in the center of Canby, becomes the hub where hundreds of high quality, unique and unusual vehicles are displayed, and entered into competition for coveted awards and certificates. Music is played in the park, local civic clubs hold a fund-raising breakfast, a Rotary BBQ, vendors set up shop in booths and kiosks, the flower show, Farmers Market, Quilt Show, Art Show and other events tend to keep visitors in town a bit longer. The "Big Weekend" is free for attendees. Those who enter their vehicles for competition pay $20. (There is no entry fee for tractors). The entire weekend and the events are fundraisers for local charities.
The local "Canby Cruisers" club run the show. The first 400 cars entered receive free dash plaques for the show cars.
Wait Park is located on North Grant Street between 3rd and 5th Streets.
