The 154Km (96miles) Route starts at Milngavie passes through Mugdock Country Park, follows the shores of Loch Lomond, passing Ben Lomond, through Glen Falloch and Strathfillan, crossing Rannoch Moor, past Buachaille Etive Mor to the head of Glencoe, climbing the Devil’s Staircase, descending to sea level to cross the River Leven at the head of Loch Leven before entering Lairigmor and Glen Nevis and finishes at Gordon Square in Fort William.
The terrain ranges from lowland moors, dense woodland and rolling hills, to high mountainous regions in the Scottish Highlands. These environments provide habitats for a diverse range of wildlife species, both flora and fauna .
Many options exist for accomodation with a variety of hotels and B&B's along the way. A few camp sites are passed and there is also the option of wild camping (subject to some restrictions in places). Although passing some stunning high peaks the path remains largely at a lower level, some sections such as the one alongside Loch Lomond can be surprisingly challenging.
Time set aside to complete the route is a matter of personal preference (..a few mad souls regularly run it with sub 24 hour times!). Eight days would be a rather slow pace enabling rest periods and time exploring the stops along the way. If the Waymarking page for entering a description had allowed I would have stated 5 to 8 days.
Despite some people being determined that Waymarks should carry extremely detailed information - I feel a better start would be with the listed website and links contained within.
It is a great walk and a fine long distance path for all abilities. I have given co-ordinates for the start and end of the walk (..or trailhead as this site insists on calling them).
Anybody planning a walk is advised to research the West Coast of Scotland's weather and also a wee beastie we call 'the midge' before setting off !
