Sometime in 1980 the present group of lawn bowlers started bowling. Bob Coles and Art Daumke were rummaging around one of the ARC storage rooms and found eight boxes containing four lawn bowls each, in sizes ranging from one to eight.
Bob Coles, who has relatives in Australia, knew about this game which was being played in many of the British Islands It was decided to get a group together knowing that the rink was actually right outside the ARC building. A group of men and their wives was organized. This turned out to be the beginning of our present Club which now has a membership of approximately sixty players. Each year it is growing larger.
In 1983, The Lawn Bowlers became a charter Club of the ARC. The original bowls are still used for instructional purposes. When an interested person decides to become a member, he must purchase a set of bowls for his personal use.
Originally the Club played on Tuesdays and Fridays. The schedule now is at least five times a week.
