A new ferry linking the northern town of Dunaremete with Gabcikovo, across the Danube in Slovakia, opened at July 26, 2013 Year.
The boat was a centrepiece of a EUR 3.23 million Hungarian-Slovak Cross Border Cooperation Programme, of which the maximum 85 per cent of financing is coming from EU cohesion funds.
Hungary was responsible for commissioning the 24- by 7-metre raft, which was built in the Danubian port of Baja. It was designed to carry 100 people across the Danube for EUR 3 a pop, with kids under seven years travelling for free. There is room for six cars, but then only 50 people can go on board.
