Another rare feature on this War memorial is the bronze soldier that stands atop the granite plinth, sculpted by the World famous, SIR WILLIAM GOSCOMBE JOHN.

Most War Memorials, topped with a military figure, are stone, or mouldings.

The Monument is situated on Priory Street, a busy main road, with continuous vehicle traffic but very little footfall.
This War memorial is halfway to the Roman Amphitheatre, whilst walking from the Towns main car park.

The memorial has the following inscription:
