Dating back to 1897, the old Petrolia water tower marks the end of the 11 mile pipeline bringing water from Lake Huron at Brights Grove to Petrolia which was built when the local water became unuseable due to contamination from the oil wells in the area. The same water supply system is still in use today although recently upgraded to state-of-the-art membrane filtration technology and the old riveted tower has long since been replaced by a newer one close by.
