The small church Madonna della Ruga was built in the 17th century at a stairway through the vineyards west of Ascona, today this is in the middle of a residential zone with many holiday appartments.

The church incorporated a smaller chapel from the 15th century, a mural from the original chapel was conserved in the niche of a small side altar.

The church is made of cobblestones; three of the four walls are raw cobblestones. The front face with the main door is painted with a skull relief in the gable.
