"Apontamentos da história de Guimarães aludem à existência de um remoto templete, invocando ao mártir S. Sebastião, existente no extremo ocidental do Campo de S. Francisco até 1570, altura em que ali foi ereta a igreja. Com a extinção das ordens religiosas e a demolição da igreja paroquial em 1892, a igreja de São Sebastião passou a ocupar o antigo convento de Santa Rosa de Lima (Templo da Dominicas), construído entre 1727 e 1737. Do conjunto patrimonial destacam-se: o altar-mor em talha dourada, no topo da igreja, construído nos anos de 1741-42; dois altares laterais em talha dourada e policromada de 1745; o altar do século XX que consagra a imagem de São Sebastião, em estilo neoclássico; o órgão joanino construído em 1776 em talha dourada e policromada; um conjunto de sanefas em talha dourada do período joanino, que coroam as portas e janelas."

"A Igreja e Convento das Domínicas localiza-se na freguesia de São Sebastião, concelho de Guimarães, distrito de Braga, em Portugal.
O antigo convento seiscentista, foi fundado no século XVII por Frei Sebastião, Prior do Convento de S. Domingos de Viana do Castelo. A actual construção é do século XVIII, obra da Prioresa Madre Catarina das Chagas. Possui um conjunto de retábulos e sanefas em talha dourada, e um órgão barroco.

Inserida no Convento está a Igreja São Sebastião.
A Igreja, de uma só nave, ficou concluída em 1734, e as obras de madeira em 1736. Possui um orgão joanino construído em 1776, por António Cunha, em talha dourada, e no qual está inserido um jocoso boneco denominado "O macacão das dominicas". Na Pia Baptismal está um crucifixo do século XVI."
