This Allan Herschell carousel was built in 1928. Its early history up until about 1983 is currently unknown. It was in private storage from 1983 to 1985 before being brought out and installed in Huckleberry's Buffet in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where it operated from 1985 to 1995. It was then purchased by Warren and Irene Diederich and was completely restored with some modern improvements added. The Diederichs donated the Carousel to the Zoological Society in 1997. The Carousel is located inside an all-weather building and is accessible year-round. Music is supplied by a tape-deck.
