ENThis is a Soviet Mil Mi-1 type helicopter (NATO reporting name
Hare) on the roof of an electrical distribution substation at the MARTa Museum car park. The Mil Mi-1 was the first conventional helicopter in serial production in the Soviet Union, with more than 2.500 units built from 1950 - 1965.
The helicopter was put up as a piece of installation art by German sculptor and object artist
Michael Sailstorfer in 2005. It is painted all in military olive grey livery and has no tail number nor any other lettering. Likewise there is no plaque nor any other information on the site, instead the item stands for itself and challenges visitors to make their own thoughts about it.

Hare) auf dem Dach einer Trafostation auf dem Parkplatz des MARTa Museums. Der Mil Mi-1 war der erste Hubschrauber konventioneller Bauart, der in der Sowjetunion in Serienproduktion ging; zwischen 1950 und 1965 wurden mehr als 2500 Stück dieses Typs gebaut.
Der Hubschrauber wurde 2005 als Kunstinstallation von dem Bildhauer und Objektkünstler
Michael Sailstorfer aufgestellt. Er ist ganz in militärischem Olivgrau lackiert und trägt weder eine Kennzeichnungsnummer noch irgendeine andere Beschriftung. Ebensowenig gibt es vor Ort eine Informationstafel oder einen anderen Hinweis auf das Objekt. Vielmehr steht das Ausstellungsstück für sich selbst und fordert den Betrachter dazu heraus, sich seine eigenen Gedanken darüber zu machen.
