This mural recalls the awful Civil War in El Salvador from 1979 to 1992 in which civilians were often deliberately targeted. 70,000 to 80,000 people were killed. 8,000 disappeared and over 1 Million in a country of fewer than 6 million were displaced.

At the end of the mural, the Memorial morphs into a wall with the names of the thousands of victims of the Civil War.
A plaque at the site indicates that the artist is Julio Reyes and was unveiled on November 2, 2005. The material seems to be unglazed ceramic.
The Monument is entitled "A La Memoria Y La Verdad" which means "To the Memory and the Truth".
