Fort Worth boasts an excellent zoo. It is located near University Drive, and very close to I-30, in Fort Worth, Texas. Texas Christian University (TCU), the Colonial Country Club, several large park areas, the local Botanic Gardens, science and art museums, the Will Rogers complex, and the Trinity River trail system are all located very close together. We call it the "Cultural District".

Our zoo houses over 5000 animals and over 350 native and exotic species. It has earned the reputation as one of our nation's best zoos. We love it very much.

It has giraffes, and hippos, lions, tigers, and all the standard exotic animals. In addition, there are special areas that highlight the Texas landscape, and the critters that live there.

There is an aquarium, a big insect house, a big reptile house, and a terrific primate habitat.

It has a petting zoo, complete with goats and pigs that will try to eat the cell phone in your pocket.

The zoo hosts all the "tours" that go across the country, like the big butterfly exhibit, the exotic bird tour, the insect tour, etc. There are several dozen specialized zoo tours. And our zoo always has one of them going on. Right now, it is hosting two different special exhibits, I think. One is called "The Great Barrier Reef".

The zoo has had good with reproduction and animal conservation. Most recently, an albino tiger cub was successfully born, I think.

I live only about a mile from the zoo. There is a strange comfort that girrafes and tigers are sleeping within a mile from where I sleep.

Admission is about $10 for adults, $8 for kids, toddlers are free, parking is $5.

Hours are usually 10am to 5pm.
