Fussing Lake is beautifully located with steep slopes from the surrounding hilly countryside. The lake has clean, clear water and is surrounded by 30 m high, cultivated slopes with minor woodland. The uneven lake bottom is trough-shaped and reaches down to 29 m depth. The inlet to the lake is primarily done through a number of sources on the lake's bottom. It fills almost the entire bottom of a 4 km long subglacial that cuts deep into the 50-70 m tall, narrow moraine between Skals Ådal and Nørreådalen.

The lake is, by Danish standards, very deep, and the wind sheltered location creates a temperature stratification of the water masses every summer. Stratification implies a natural conditional anaerobic period in the bottom water. The catchment area is relatively small, and the waters residence time in the lake is very long. It takes almost 8 years from the water runs into the lake until it leaves the lake through Skals Å. The lake's water level is 16.9 meters above sea level. and the lake holds 27,9 mil. cubic meters of water.

Bathing is permitted in the lake's west end where a small beach with fine bathing facilities is located. The lake offers excellent conditions for recreational fishing, with northern pike and european perch as the primary catches.
