The bridge serves narrow-spur rail run by Bord na Móna, Irish state-owned company for exploiting peatbogs and processing turf. It is a single bascule drawing bridge, operated by Bord na Móna employees from a cabin at the canal bank. I passed the bridge on my kayak trip and they were kind enough to lift it for me so I could take the bridge pictures in open and closed states.
