There are a pair of small lakes situated between The two "Finger Lakes" of Keuka to the west and Seneca to the east. The two lakes are Lamoka and Waneta. There are lovely views of this picturesque lake from hilltops all around it.

The default photo and the posted coordinates for Lamoka Lake were taken at a boat launch location at the south end - a section identified on my Finger Lakes Trail map as "Mud Pond". The land mass across the lake is known as Mosquito Island, and canoers will pull up here to camp for a while.

An elevated view of Lamoka Lake, go to the intersection of County Rd 22 and Kelly Hill Road (N 42° 22.460 W 077° 02.768). I've post a picture taken from this scenic overlook location. I believe this is the same location from which the lake's website photo was taken; compare here (visit link) In this photo, Waneta Lake is the more distant body of water (north of Lamoka). Following West Lake road north another clear view of he lake (N 42° 23.708 W 077° 05.376) at the narrowest point of he lake, looking across at .

I also posted pictures from two locations on the Finger Lakes Trail, roughly he same elevation as the above scenic. This second scenic overlook ( N 42° 22.460 W 077° 02.768) Is about 1 mile west of the first on the Finger Lakes Trail (map segment M13). The third picture at this elevation was just coming out of Sugar Hill State Forest less than 1/2 mile further west still (N 42° 21.663 W 077° 03.613).

These two lakes are not considered "Finger Lakes" because the Finger Lakes flow north, ultimately into the St. Lawrence River, Waneta and Lamoka drain south into the Cohocton River, which is part of the Susquehanna river system.

Lamoka means "mud lake" in native indian languages. Some archeological artifacts have been found from native peoples (that we have since dupped the Lamoka People) who lived here (at least seasonally) between 3500 BCE and 1300 BCE as hunter/gatherers. (visit link)
