Fürst Hermann Ludwig Heinrich von Pückler-Muskau (1785-1871) kehrte nach einem Aufenthalt in England in sein Schloß zurück. In England hat er die dort bestehenden Landschaftsparks kennengelernt. Nach deren Vorbild legte er ab 1815 um sein Schloß in Bad Muskau den ersten Garten dieser Art in Deutschland an.
Heute gehört der östliche Teil des Parks, in em auch der Gedenkstein steht, zu Polen und ist UNESCO-Welterbe.
