On October 5th 1995, this facilty was inaugurated by the local Mayor, Raúl Castro.
The text on the plaque says: "Batalha's Municipal Swimming Pools, Built by the Associação de Melhoramentos da Freguesia da Batalha", inaugurated on 95.10.05 by the Mayor Raúl Castro".
These swimminhg pools were built to create a school of swimming. There are 2 pools: one for children and another one with 8 lanes and 2.5 meters deep. Both are heated and indoor.
Raúl Castro was Batalha's Mayor for a 8 year period between 1991 and 1999. Nowadays he is the Mayor of Leiria.
