The history of the Duplessis orphans or more babies
Everything happens in Austin in 1947. In those years, when `a child came into the world and that he was deformed or had a severe physical disability, or the possibility of` be suffering from a mental illness `(head of water, a term used at that time) At `delivery, we removed the lad's mother and they put baby in a nursery (hospital).Woman had never seen her child. The people were poor and they were not necessarily funeral. For the wealthy, the hospital did everything. In the countryside, the doctor left with the baby, or it was the midwife.
It's like that it worked, it was a family secret. For those who have wrinkles in the face like me whose parents were not wealthy, it's probably a story you've heard, or at least remained mysterious.
So Lily Esther Butters who had just arrived from England with her husband and son Cecil crafted the first hospital to keep these children. The money came directly from the Duplessis government location was virtually secret.
At first six children were hospitalized in the first year and then when the government took charge of the place in 1972, they had 435. The hospital if it's the case was closed in 1990. All children and adults who grew up here have been placed elsewhere.

Dans ces années, lorsqu`un enfant venait au monde et qu'il était déformé ou avait un handicap physique sévère ou bien la possibilité d`être atteint d`une maladie mentale (tête d`eau, terme employé dans ce temps) A l`accouchement, on enlevait l`enfant à la mère et on le placait.La femme n'a jamais revu son enfant. Les gens étaient pauvres et ils ne faisaient pas nécessairement de funérailles. Pour les plus fortunés, l`hopital s`occupait de tout. En campagne, le médecin quittait avec le bébé, ou bien c'était la sage femme.
C`est comme çà que cela fonctionnait, c`était un secret . Pour ceux qui ont des rides dans le visage et dont les parents étaient peu fortunés, c`est sûrement une histoire dont vous avez entendu parler, ou du moins qui est demeurée mystérieuse.
Donc Lily Esther Butters qui venait d`arriver d`Angleterre avec son mari et son fils Cecil ouvra le premier hopital pour garder ces enfants. L`argent venait directement du gouvernement Duplessis et l'emplacement était pratiquement secret.
Au début 6 enfants ont été hospitalisés la première année puis lorsque le gouvernement a pris charge de l`endroit en 1972, ils y en avaient 435. L`hopital si c`est le cas fût fermé en 1990. Tous les enfants et les adultes qui ont grandit à cet endroit ont été placés ailleurs.
