"Le bâtiment 20 est un des plus beaux exemples du développement de l'astronomie au Canada, en particulier dans le domaine de la mesure du temps. Il est le plus ancien des édifices conçus au Canada pour servir d'observatoire. Il a aussi abrité l'un des premiers dispositifs utilisés dans un port canadien pour mesurer l'heure et pour donner le signal horaire au moyen d'une boule. Le bâtiment 20 est clairement visible depuis le port de Québec; il a aussi été délibérément aligné sur la ligne du méridien."
"Building 20 is one of the best illustrations associated with the development of astronomy in Canada, in the field of time measurement in particular. Building 20 is the oldest building in Canada designed for use as an observatory. It also housed one of the first devices used in a Canadian harbour to measure time and to signal the time using a ball. Building 20 can be clearly seen from the harbour and was purposefully aligned with the meridian line."
La tour de la boule a 44 pieds de haut. Pendant la saison de navigation, à chaque jour, la boule était élevée à mi-chemin à 12h45; à 12h55, elle était hissée au sommet puis à 13 h, on la laissait tomber.
The Ball house tower is 44 feet high. Every year during navigation season, the time ball would be raised daily to the half-way point at 12:45, then to the top, and it would be dropped at exactly 1:00 p.m. local time.
Note: c'est préférable de faire la visite guidée(1 heure) de la Citadelle afin de mieux voir le Bâtiment 20 - La tour de la boule. C'est ouvert tous les jours, de 9 à 17 heures.
