Boart Longyear is in the drilling business so it is only fitting that they should place this vintage drop-bit drill on display in front of their office. This drill literally punched a hole in the ground by raising a heavy long bit, then let it drop into the hole. Debris was then flushed out with water or drilling mud. From the company web site:
