Bis 1943 wurden diese Steine zur Herstellung von Papier benötigt. Die Mahlsteine wurden zum Zermalmen der Rohstoffe eingesetzt. In einem Stahlbottich wurden Holzschnitzel und Hadern (Lumpen) im sogenannten Kollergang zu einem Brei verarbeitet.
