The 10 tonne submarine was built in nearby Dongara in the early 1970's with its sole purpose being to catch crayfish (rock lobster)in tropical waters in Western Australia's north-west because it was believed the shellfish would not respond to conventional baited pots
After the venture failed the submarine was stripped back and the rusting parts were replaced, windows were cut in the side to allow the public to see inside the cabin and the original motor.
It was painted bright yellow after the famous 1966 song by the Beatles, written by Paul McCartney
