This week at Dublin court, Dermot Molloy from Dunshaughlin, co. Meath, pleaded guilty to several robberies.
During his last robbery attempt he took EUR 250 from Gloss Beauty Salon, threatening the staff with a knife. Escaping through Richmond Street South, he tried to get a taxi but the salon owner, Ms Rosie McGeough, was following him and he kept running to the canal bridge. At the canal side he was confronted by several pedestrians and made a desperate attempt to escape by swimming the canal - but got arrested immediately as he reached the opposite canal bank.
