[DE] Mit Beginn der Industrialisierung kam über Transmissionswellen angetriebenen Maschinen eine immer größere Bedeutung zu. Der Antrieb erfolgte zunächst über Dampfmaschinen, später mit Elektromotoren.
Der hier ausgestellte Fallhammer gehört in den Bereich der vielfältigen Anwendung von Transmissionswellen. Das Gerät diente dazu, glühend erhitztes Eisen zu schmieden. Dazu wurde das Werkstück zunächst auf den Amboß gelegt. Der 30 kg schwere Fallhammer, der mit Hilfe der Transmission auf die gewünschte Höhe transportiert worden war, wurde dann durch Bedienung eines Hebels gelöst, so daß er auf das Schmiedestück aufschlug und es somit bearbeitete. Durch erneute Bedienung des Hebels wurde der Hammer über die Transmission wieder in die Höhe gezogen, und der Arbeitsvorgang konnte wiederholt werden.
Mit Hilfe der Fallhämmer konnte die Schmiedeleistung erheblich gesteigert werden. Ein weiterer Vorteil dieses Gerätes bestand darin, daß der Schmied mit verhältnismäßig geringem Kraftaufwand arbeiten konnte.
[EN] With the onset of industrialization machines driven by transmission shafts came to an ever greater importance. Initially machines were driven by steam engines, later with electric motors.
The drop hammer exhibited here was used to forge glowing heated iron. For this purpose the workpiece was first placed on the anvil. Once the 30-pound hammer had been transported by transmission to the desired height, it was then dissolved by operation of a lever, so that it hit the forging piece. The hammer on the transmission was pulled back into the air by re-operation of the lever, and the operation was repeated.
With the help of the drop hammers performance could be significantly increased. Another advantage of this device was that the smith was able to work with relatively little effort.
The object is located outside the museum and accessible by the public free of charge.
