St Anthony's is a small stone built church. Wooden plaque inside celebrates 1504 to 2004 of church standing here. Still in use, weekly. Hardly changed from day it was rebuilt. A very serene, quiet place. Only nature's sounds. Well worth a visit.

Open to the public with swallows nesting in porch. Vicar shares his duties with other churches in the valley. Just reading the notices and memorials inside, you realise parishioners care about their church and you can feel the warmth of mankind.

Inside all wood fittings, pews, pulpit, roof timbers and altar area. Small pipe organ. Stone font under bell tower. Large stone tablets with prayers inscribed, one of Lord's prayer. Does not have usual church smell, more neutral, nothing, not even dust. Wooden ornate board roll calls vicars starting in 1520. see photo

Outside is rendered in stone cladding. When you visit please add an interior photo of a plaque or fitting.

There is a school marked on OS map, South of church, now shut, and called Cartmel Fell Parish Hall. Park here.

Donation box below sign saying 'This church has been here since time of the long bow' asks for help towards costs of £325 a week to keep this church running.

From the Parish Hall, enter graveyard through a 'lych gate' see photo. Lych gate to commemorate the fallen during WW2 1939-45. Beside path from lych gate to entrance is a green slate memorial to WW1 parishioners.

Graveyard still in use, with tarmac paths kept clear. Very old grave stones as well as more modern ones from this decade.

St Anthony's was built as a satellite church to Cartmel Priory which is many miles away, but shares similar village name, Cartmel. The two locations are often confused, especially by tourists.

Check out the other nearby waymarks, and geocaches (1/2007).
