I 1934 lånte Vernon Presley, far til Elvis Presley, $180 af hans arbejdsgiver. Sammen med hans bror byggede han for pengene et såkaldt Shotgun House. I dette hus blev Elvis Presley født d. 8. januar 1935. Det originale hus er idag, lige som Elvis' senere bolig Graceland, en stor turist attraktion.
Et shotgun hus er et smalt aflangt hus, sjældent mere end 3,5 meter bredt. Husets rum er placeret på en lang række er huset har døre i begge ender. Det var en populær boligform i sydstaterne fra slutningen af den amerikanske borgerkrig og frem til 1920'erne.
I april 2013 opførtes en nøjagtig kopi af det hus Vernon Presley byggede kort inden Elvis kom til verden ved siden af Elvis museet Graceland Randers i Danmark.

A shotgun house is a narrow rectangular domestic residence, usually no more than 3.5 m wide, with rooms arranged one behind the other and doors at each end of the house. It was a popular style of house in the Southern United States from the end of the American Civil War through the 1920s.
In april 2013 an exact replica of the house build by Vernon Presley was build next to the Elvis museum Graceland Randers in Randers, Denmark.
