In 1864, the CBOT listed the first ever standardized "exchange traded" forward contracts, which were called futures contracts. They moved to this location in 1930. This was the tallest building in Chicago from 1930-1965. In 1977, it was designated as a Chicago landmark.
The lobby-level Visitor Centers are now closed and the viewing gallery remains closed to the public for security purposes. Only pre-scheduled academic and industry related groups are permitted access to the viewing gallery overlooking the trading floors.
