A simple frame on the lawn at Wray Castle, looking south east at Windermere. Bizarrely the seats are in front of the frame. Free

This frame appeared in 2012 on the lawn of Wray Castle near the mulberry tree planted by William Wordsworth. The frame is a simple construction with two supports driven into the ground and a frame attached to them. Strangely the seats depicted are in front as they pre-date the frame which was put here by National Trust rangers in September 2012. Blog= (

In view is Windermere, the lake, and more precisely Low Wray Bay. The wooded finger of land is Claife Heights. The village on the other shore is Bowness on Windermere with Biskey Howe and Brant Fell behind.
Wray Castle in owned by the National Trust (
visit link) who have had tenants using the fake castle in the past. Now it stands empty so the Trust have opened the castle to visitors and run events from here to raise money for the ongoing repairs.
Currently there is no charge for parking (2013) but that may change. Nor is there a charge for walking in the grounds.
