The Naas and Corbally Branch of Grand Canal was built in 1786-1789. There are five locks between Sallins and Naas. The canal was closed for navigation in 1961.
A pressure for restoring the navigation started in 1970s and the Office of Public Works completed the restoration project in 1987.
