The Melton Memorial Observatory was completed in 1928 and is named in honor of a former president of the University. Its main telescope is a 16-inch Cassegrain. They also have four 8" Celestron CPC-800 GPS telescopes, a 10" Meade LX200 GPS telescope, a 14" Celestron CGE-1400 GPS telescope, a Lunt 60mm H-a Solar Telescope, an Orion ED 80mm Apochromatic Refractor, an Explore Scientific 127mm Apochromatic Refractor, and a Lunt 152mm H-a/Ca-K Telescope.

The observatory is open to the public each Monday night and is used by the Midlands Astronomy Club which meet at the observatory each Thursday night. The observatory is also used by students in various astronomy classes.
