This is a mosaic column in the Albert-Schweitzer-Strasse estate of the Freie Scholle, a Bielefeld cooperative housing society. It is part of a Freie Scholle project to foster neighborhood relations and was created by the estate tenants in a 4-day workshop in October 2007. As tenants of all ages were involved, the idea was to create a "column of the generations" and the mosaic shows people young and old hand in hand, living happily together under a bright sun with birds and butterflies flying about. For the mosaic, the outlines of some of the participants were drawn with chalk onto the column and then filled with tile fragments of different colors. There are similar columns in other Freie Scholle estates in town and each one is individually designed by local tenants. The columns resemble the well-known advertising pillars in shape, but are smaller and about two meters tall.

Dies ist eine Mosaiksäule an der Albert-Schweitzer-Straße in einer Siedlung der Freien Scholle, einer genossenschaftlichen Wohnungsgesellschaft in Bielefeld. Sie entstand als Teil eines Projekts zur Stärkung des nachbarschaftlichen Zusammenlebens und wurde in einem viertägigen Workshop im Oktober 2007 von den Mietern selbst gestaltet. Da Mieter aller Altersgruppen beteiligt waren, entstand die Idee zu einer "Generationensäule" und das Mosaik zeigt junge und alte Menschen Hand in Hand, wie sie unter einer strahlenden Sonne und inmitten herumschwirrender Vögel und Schmetterlinge fröhlich zusammenleben. Für das Mosaik wurden die Umrisse einiger Teilnehmer mit Kreide auf die Säule aufgemalt und dann mit bunten Fliesenscherben ausgefüllt. Ähnliche Mosaiksäulen stehen auch in anderen Freie-Scholle-Siedlungen in Bielefeld, sie sind alle individuell von den jeweiligen Mietern gestaltet. Die Grundform ähnelt der einer Litfasssäule, sie sind aber kleiner und nur etwa zwei Meter hoch.
