Great Masson Caverns can be explored through the Heights of Abraham on a ticket which includes a ride on a cable car with entry into these caverns and The Rutland Cavern. Exploited for Fluorspar, the natural caverns were mined of this mineral.

A guide takes you round Great Masson Caverns showing you the rocks, miner's snot and chambers. Various depictions can be seen on the rockface and mineral deposits shine in the torchlight.

The caverns are partly natural and also mined. Miners have taken the Fluorspar deposits and followed the veins into the caves. The entrance to the caverns is via the old mining tunnel. Nowadays very little minerals remain but the caverns are impressive and well cared for to allow future generations to view their secrets.

The soot marks from candles, pick marks from tools and narrow shafts show how miners once worked in these caverns. We enjoyed an informative tour round. More information can be seen here visit link and here visit link
