The Dowry is an upscale eclectic gift shop in the historic Morton-Cook building in the middle of Okmulgee's Natioanl Historic district downtown. Their intricately carved unique shop sign hangs from a decorative wrought-iron fixture above the door, and adds to the cute quirky nature of this area.
The sign's apearance suggests that it could have been carved from a large irregular cedar tree trunk, which are common trees in this area. Many people who came to OK during the Territorial period (1889-1907) used these trees for their lumber.
The script style of the sign's letters have some Victorian style to them, perfect for the age of this historic district. Most of the buildings date from the turn of the century.
The shop itself is filled with gorgeous items for your home, such as china, glassware, and candlesticks. There is a section for beautiful wedding gifts and cute baby gifts too. We loved the stylish picture frames and bowls..
We think the shop is named called "They Dowry" because much of their stock is geared to wedding gifts.
Look closely at the sign and you will see a small wineglass in the center, which suggests the fine quality and household nature of the gifts inside.
